Biomedical engineering telemetry and physiological states are evaluated rigorously using 64-bit IEEE 754 precision. Residuals reflect ordinary least-squares regression across successive observations. Continuous data structures support high-fidelity biological and physiological modeling.

Biomedical assumptions and boundary condition limits

The linear induction model applies across non-turbulent and turbulent regimes up to 300 mL/min for the 6 mm probe. Evaluated using a 6.0 mm internal diameter cannulated flow probe with a 250 Hz square-wave AC magnetic excitation field (B = 0.050 Tesla). Perfusion fluid is physiological saline (0.9% NaCl, electrical conductivity 1.6 S/m) pumped from 50 to 300 mL/min.

A reason behind every step.

Determine the induced transverse bio-potential across cannulated physiological saline flow under an applied transverse magnetic field and verify Faraday's law of induction. Standardized parameter settings: 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 mL/min.

01

Fluid Circuit Priming and Zero Flow Balancing

Fill the flow loop with 0.9% physiological saline at 37.0 °C, purge all air bubbles from the probe lumen, stop pump, and adjust zero offset to 0.00 μV.

02

Electromagnet AC Drive Stabilization

Energize probe electromagnet with 250 Hz square-wave excitation; verify magnetic flux density B = 0.050 T at center bore.

03

Initial Flow Rate Standardization

Set perfusion pump to deliver steady 50 mL/min volumetric flow rate, verified via timed gravimetric collection on electronic balance.

04

Induced Potential Sampling

Sample the synchronously gated microvolt potential V_i across platinum pickup electrodes over a 30-second integration window.

05

Flow Progression Sequence

Increment pump delivery to 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 mL/min, recording stabilized induced voltage V_i at each flow step.

06

CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING

Explain what the biomedical metrics mean.

What fundamental physical law governs the operation of an electromagnetic blood flowmeter?

Why do modern electromagnetic flowmeters use AC square-wave magnetic excitation instead of DC?

If measured induced voltage is 72.00 μV at a volumetric flow rate of 200 mL/min, what is the induction constant k_q?

What happens to the induced potential if an air bubble passes between the pickup electrodes?
