Motorized Hydraulic Penetrometer Rig
Drives the penetrometer shaft vertically into soil at standard ASABE velocity of 30 mm/s (±5 mm/s).
Measure vertical cone penetration resistance force across soil depth to identify tillage pans, compaction layers, and calculate the ASABE Cone Index (CI). Explore interactive farm machinery simulation, irrigation hydraulics, and agricultural engineering telemetry.
Ready to sample with Depth z = 15.0 cm.
Adjust Depth z, then execute agricultural trial.
Agricultural engineering telemetry and biosystems states are evaluated rigorously using 64-bit IEEE 754 precision. Residuals reflect ordinary least-squares regression across successive observations. Continuous data structures support high-fidelity agricultural and environmental modeling.
The linear model applies to the upper 30 cm of uniform, settled topsoil prior to reaching dense glacial till or bedrock. Evaluated in an agricultural silt loam soil (gravimetric moisture content 17.5%, bulk density 1.35 g/cm³) using an ASABE standard 30° cone (base area 3.23 cm²). Linear penetration gradient is evaluated across the upper 30 cm depth profile at standard 30 mm/s penetration rate.
Drives the penetrometer shaft vertically into soil at standard ASABE velocity of 30 mm/s (±5 mm/s).
Provides standardized soil cutting geometry with base diameter 20.27 mm (base area 323 mm²).
Measures vertical penetration resistance force with 1.0 N resolution up to 2000 N capacity.
Measures continuous insertion depth from 0 to 60 cm with 0.5 mm spatial resolution.
Synchronously samples depth and force at 100 Hz to generate continuous high-density penetration curves.
Measures volumetric soil moisture content concurrently at 5 cm depth intervals.
Measure vertical cone penetration resistance force across soil depth to identify tillage pans, compaction layers, and calculate the ASABE Cone Index (CI). Standardized parameter settings: 5.0, 10.0, 15.0, 20.0, 25.0, 30.0 cm.
Position the mobile penetrometer frame over the surveyed test grid and anchor hydraulic outriggers to eliminate frame deflection.
Inspect the 30° cone for surface wear, align the shaft vertically with a spirit level, and zero the load cell in free air above the soil.
Set the electric-hydraulic servo actuator to maintain a constant vertical advance velocity of 30 mm/s.
Initiate automated insertion down to 30 cm depth while logging instantaneous force F_p and depth z continuously.
Extract representative penetration force readings at standard 5 cm depth increments (5.0, 10.0, 15.0, 20.0, 25.0, 30.0 cm).
Calculate Cone Index CI = F_p / A_c and plot F_p against depth z, performing linear regression to evaluate the penetration gradient k_p.
Points are your recorded observations. The solid regression line validates Soil Cone Index Profile mathematical scaling.
